Lavender plates
Poet Laval, near the town of Dieulefit, in the Drome region of Provence, is regarded as one of France's most beautiful villages, with a population of about 800. Renowned for lavender, olives, pottery and pure air, it began in the 13th century around a castle built by knights of the order of St John. The restored castle stands above the maze of alleys, stairs and terraces that constitute the old village today. These lavender plates of faience have been hand painted in a small artisan workshop now located in the nearby town of Dieulefit and depict one of the region's specialities. Round plates are also available.
